I get blank stares when I bring up flipping the situation, as if many folks simply don't know how that could work.

I think it underestimates what men bring to a relationship to think he can't be the one to save her soul.

::fingers crossed:: that both our writings (and that of my fellow Btvers) help usher in more varied pairings and a broader definition of love. :)

~XAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869464170817632469.post-25589158500608959582009-03-19T18:00:00.000-05:002009-03-19T18:00:00.000-05:00Funny how a female angsty and tortured MC often ma...Funny how a female angsty and tortured MC often makes it not a romance, even if there is a love interest of some sort, but urban fantasy, while the same traits in a male MC make it a paranormal romance. What, a woman can't be kick-ass AND have her soul saved AND fall in love?

I also agree that there needs to be a fuller spectrum of pairings in mainstream offerings. (And I'm personally keeping my fingers crossed for my own writing on this one ;)

Perhaps the traditional one-for-one-in-all-the-world helps simplify this very complex idea of true love. I don't know.

Thanks for the thought-provoking post.Cathy in AKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08667978358875270260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869464170817632469.post-77630719611533463052009-03-19T16:34:00.000-05:002009-03-19T16:34:00.000-05:00I didn't say there's anything wrong with true love...I didn't say there's anything wrong with true love, it's the limitation of that true love to a single individual throughout all space and time that bothers me. That even true love has a limit seems wrong.

~XAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869464170817632469.post-50153354796206636622009-03-19T15:36:00.000-05:002009-03-19T15:36:00.000-05:00Me...I like the "One True Love" storylines. I like the escapism and the fact I know what I'm going to get in the end...an HEA. That's not saying I don't read other genres, but when I do, I'm not looking for the love angle at all. I'm reading that for a totally different reason, or to fill another need.

You may want your love not so true...but me...I need to know it will last past the final scene.

-KatKathleen Scott/MK Mancoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14872072913152568070noreply@blogger.com
