Best Laid Plans...

I’ve missed out on blogging for quite a long, long while. Not knowing what to blog about, I’d always ended up totally spazzing and forgetting about it until it was too late. My memory isn’t what it used to be. But, I guess I can’t be too hard on my ol’ brain. It does have to deal with the day job and the night job — getting dinner ready and spending time with the dogs. Oh yeah, the kids, too. I’m sure you get the picture. There are many of you out there who have the added soccer, cheerleading, wrestling, baseball, football, basketball…wow. I don’t know how parents do it. There should be a medal for that!

Thankfully, I do have something on my mind to blog about today. For weeks now I’ve known about a Women’s Expo being held this weekend in South Bend, Indiana and planned on attending. I thought I’d take the drive, perhaps with my sisters, pay the admission and enjoy all the information and goodies. And, for marketing’s sake, I had purchased promo postcards to hand out while I chatted up my books to other attendees.

Not going to happen, thanks to a sinus infection that combined with some other sort of infection. Seems they discovered a split on my lip and the two ganged up on my face, blowing up my cheek, jaw and neck like a balloon...not to mention making my lip on that side grow almost too big to talk. What’s worse is it left the cut right smack in the middle of it all and making me feel like a teenager with a humongous zit.

While allowing the antibiotics to do their job and as I pass this opportunity by, I happened upon a website for a winery in Kentucky. Oh how I love wine...but that’s a blog for another time. You see? I’ve already set up more plans! Yay!

Back to the website. On its upcoming events page it lists “She Expo” in Frankfort, Kentucky on March 12th. So yeah, I’m going to give promoting another shot. Barring any injuries, illnesses or inclement weather, I shall be there. But, then again, we are approaching tornado weather. Just saying.

If you know of any upcoming events where the audience’s interest may be in reading romance novels, please do give me a shout. I’m often found on Facebook. Love it, and so easy to get to from my cell phone.

Here’s hoping for my plan to do some promoting and perhaps some of you may make the trip as well.

Eleven for '11

You’ve recovered from the hangover and looking a little askance at your resolutions. Work looks like work again (dagnabbit) and the cold weather just won’t quit. Time to lose yourself in a good book. Not to fear, we can recommend eleven to start the year off right, and they’re all written by us:

Entered into the WitSecPsi program, as part of his cover Torrin is believed dead by the members of his psychic Triad, Resonance Partner Riley Valin and Psi Anchor Sky Roarke--his fiancĂ©. When Torrin convinces his handler to break protocol and let him see Sky and Riley, he discovers nothing is the way he remembers it—with his loved ones or the corps. Isolated in a safe house during the worst storm of the season, he’ll have to learn if passion, trust and love can be saved or if he’s just a ghost of Christmas past.

Christine Norris

The Mirror of Yu-Huang, Zumaya Publishing, December 20, 2010.
Megan’s dreams of a fun and relaxing Christmas holiday turn into a nightmare when the headmistress of her school strong-arms her father into hosting a huge New Year’s ball for the Chinese ambassador. Soon her secret charge, the Library of Athena, the Library is invaded, and only Megan can stop the invader from threatening the world.

Bianca D’Arc

Cat’s Cradle, Samhain Publishing, print release January 4.
As bad days go, this one qualifies as one for the books. Elaine knew being late for her jiu jitsu class could earn her a reprimand from her sensei. But the sensei’s not there. And suddenly, neither is her car. Walking home she discovers things most definitely dp go bump in the night—like Cade, an alpha Panther Noir on a mission transporting his queen to safety. Thrust into a world where the supernatural is commonplace, Elaine finds her considerable martial arts skill tested to the limit—and her ability to resist Cade crumbling by the second. But when nothing is as it seems, the last things she can trust are her own instincts.

Kaye Chambers

Blood and Destiny, Samhain Publishing, print release January 4.
For Destiny St. George, shapeshifting lioness and private investigator, her best friend’s imminent wedding is little more than a reminder of her failed relationship with vampire king Marcus Smythe. Tired of being only one of many mistresses—and dinner entrees—she’s stayed away from the vampire scene altogether. Until a missing-person case forces her to seek his help. When the case proves to be an elaborate trap to avenge a millennia-old grudge, she finds herself caught between love and instinct—while the clock ticks down on an innocent victim’s life.

Love at First Shot, AudioLark, audiobook release January 11th.
Emma Feltman of the Supernatural Clean-up Crew is a master mage in training with one minor problem: sexual frustration has twisted her ordinarily powerful magic into an unpredictable force of chaos. Sent to retrieve the body of a dead werewolf, she runs into another complication: T.J. Jackson, a coroner she’d just (ahem) die to play doctor with. Make that two problems. T.J. is immune to magic, which means there’s no way to make him forget what he wasn’t supposed to see. Stashing him away in a remote cabin, Megan opts for a more personal solution. But can a relationship born of extreme conditions survive?

D. McEntire

Purrs & Lace, Turquoise Morning Press, January 30, 2011

The injured human female stirs something within Jonah, making it impossible to let her go. But, how far will he go when her past returns to claim her?

Jody Wallace

One Thousand Kisses, Samhain Publishing, February 8.
Embor Fiertag, Primary of the Fey Court, has faced some major challenges, but none as tough as the three facing him right now: getting reelected, capturing the rogue agents who tried to murder him, and improving his love life. The third one should be easy—except he hasn’t exactly told Court trainee Anisette Serendipity she’s his foretold bondmate. Ani doesn’t even like him, and she’s dating Torval, his chief rival. But none of that matters when Torval tries to force himself on her. Forced to flee together to humanspace with a manipulative magical cat, Embor and Ani must find the courage to reveal—and heal—their vulnerabilities before the fabric between the Fey Realm and humanspace is ripped to shreds.

SJ Willing

Dante I, Samhain Publishing, print release March 1.

In close quarters, all is stripped away. Secrets. Lies. And clothes. But when they uncover a new technology, they ignite new Separatist repression. Can Tomas's and Yumi's connection save the planet, or will it be too little, too late?

Sharon Cullen

Wherever You Are, Samhain Publishing, April 5.
For the one woman he’s never forgotten and a love that defies the centuries, Morgan must conquer his fears and battle his deadly enemy to keep Juliana at his side.

Jean Marie Ward

“Personal Demons” in Hellebore & Rue, Drollerie Press, spring 2011.

To Ink or Not To Ink?

I'd thought I would talk about tattoos today. Now that the warm weather is here and more skin is exposed, you see more of them. I, myself, have three…well…I say three though one is an add-on to the original which has been there at least eight years.

I have a ladybug on a branch with a butterfly skittering away on my inner forearm, a crescent moon with three small stars inside it about an inch above my ankle, and last summer I added to the moon with seventeen stars running below the moon, over my anklebone, and down the side of my foot.

Out of my three tatts, I would have to say the most painful one was definitely on the foot. When that needle raked over my anklebone I thought I would die! The least painful one was the one on my forearm. It actually didn't bother me at all. The tatt guy asked if I was in the military because I wasn't even flinching. Since we'd been joking about stuff the entire time, I told him that was the reason. It really does help when you have someone with an awesome personality doing your tatt to keep your mind occupied.

So many people I have talked to with tattoos have said the same thing—it's addicting. If you have one (or more) do you agree?

One thing I don't quite understand are people who have tatts in places where only they can see. After sitting through pain I wanted to show it off. But, that's just me, lol. I suppose sometimes the reason could do with career, etc. I happen to be lucky enough to be able to show mine off with pride.

I love tatts and am thinking about getting one on the back of my neck, but close to my shoulder blades. I want something small, but haven't made up my mind yet. Got any ideas? I was thinking about angel wings…just undecided.

Do you have tatts? Where? Where was the least painful? Where was the most painful? Got any pics to share? I'm not sure if pics can be put in comments, but I'd still love to see them. You can post on my Facebook wall – Diane McEntire Vance. I have a pic of my foot tattoo there.

Well, that's my blog for today. If you are in the Charlestown, Indiana area on Saturday, I will have the first three novels of my vampire romance series, The Watchers. Want to find out more about the series? Check out my website – http://www.dmcentire.com/.

Parenthood - There is no cheap Matinee

If anyone told me three years ago I'd be walking a tightrope with one of my children, I never would have believed them. I have a daughter who is now mere months away from her 20th birthday. She is an intelligent (A/B student in high school), sweet girl with a heart of gold. Everyone jokingly called her "smiley" or "giggles" but I don't see that in her very often these days. The cause? A relationship with a guy that worries me. Why couldn't she have gone to college or find a job with benefits and stability (starting a career) instead of the local pizza joint?

As adults, we've made our mistakes and have experienced things we wished we had the ability to go back in time and change. I have many. But, how do you get your kids to listen? Immature, controlling and a future that holds very little are traits this boy posses, and it scares the hell out of me they will go from "engaged" to "married". I find myself holding my tongue to keep from alienating my daughter.

On the other hand, there is my thirteen year old boy. He's the typical boy hooked on Xbox and plays online with his friends more than I agree with, but we're working on that. I give him slack because he does very well in school. In fact, he gets calls daily from friends about homework, which he plays off by complaining about in a gruff manner. I call him a "closet nerd" because he is so bright. Unfortunately, he lands himself on lunch detention daily because of his mouth. He claims freedom of speech, but I'm trying to get him to understand there is a time and place for his opinion. The classroom is not it. Of course my words go in one ear and out the other. He's portraying a typical teenage boy showing his plume of feathers.

My son has five more years of school ahead of him, and it worries me what the future will hold. Will he continue to keep the part of him, though small, that is considerate and helpful (at least when asked) or will he migrate fully to the dark side?

Ah, the perils of parenthood. Keeps life interesting, but I'd like not have so much entertainment.

Paranormal Experiences of Overactive Imagination?

Not too long ago, I was at my desk tooling around Facebook when I heard the screen door open. I expected someone to open the main door or knock...nothing.

I got out of my chair and opened the door. No one stood on the other side, so I stepped out onto the deck and checked the driveway. No car was parked, nor was one in the process of traveling down my driveway.

Figuring my imagination was playing tricks on me, I return to the house and chatted with friends on the internet.

About five minutes later, the door handle to the side door rattled.

Again, I expected someone to open that door. And, once again, no one emerged. I opened the door. Nothing greeted me but the cold. I even walked through the garage and checked the checked the driveway again.

More than just a little freaked, I hightailed it back into the house.

*******

One night my husband and I were watching television when the answering machine suddenly voicing the day and time when normally pressing a certain button is required to activate the function.

To make the event even more interesting was the fact the evening had followed a visit from my brother and his girlfriend. They'd told us of several recent happenings in their apartment.

To this day I believe they'd brought whomever or whatever with them.

This is but two of many strange happenings I could tell. I'm sure many of you out there had similar stories. Have you experienced things you can't explain?

Secondary Characters

I usually have a hard time thinking of a topic for blogging, but today's idea sort of fell into my lap from another discussion on favorite scenes with secondary characters with another group. I got to thinking about The Watchers series, and I must say there is a couple who will always be my favorite, thus make a cameo in other books in the series whenever I can fit them in...Robyn and Trigg from Midnight Reborn.

The following scene is from Midnight Rose, the second novel of my paranoral romance series, The Watchers.

I hope you enjoy the following snippet:

"Okay, chiquita. You’ve been boring holes through me for the past hour. What is it?"
Robyn sighed and tried not to smile at Vane’s use of the endearment. He had called her chiquita since the day they had first met.
She knew she had been caught. Wiping her hands on the dishtowel she held, she walked out of the kitchen, up to the billiard table and chose her words carefully, knowing she was jumping into choppy waters. The situation between Vane and Rosa really wasn’t any of her business, but she felt compelled to bring it up.
"Vane, anyone can see you are troubled by something, and I am pretty sure I know what that something is."
Vane hesitated on his shot and glanced up at her before turning back to his game.
"I also know Rosa is having a difficult time too." Robyn saw Vane tense at the declaration.
Maybe, she thought, he hadn’t realized Rosa was suffering.
Vane walked around to the other side of the billiard table, and lined up his next shot. He spoke without looking up. "What are you getting at, chiquita?"
"Well," she continued, unable to stop herself from wiping her hands anxiously on the dishtowel. "I think you two are making a terrible mistake. It isn’t easy to find the right person these days, and I think you two are perfect for each other. You’re both too thickheaded to see it."
Vane looked up and raised an eyebrow at her assessment of their behavior.
"Chiquita." Vane sighed and laid down the pool stick he was using. He ran a hand through his hair and shrugged. "Rosa is a very special woman. She is refined, classy. She needs someone who would be good for her. A man who has a nice job, can put her up in a nice place and build a family with her."
"And you think you can’t?"
Vane looked her straight in the eyes, his face somber. "No. I can’t. I’m a Watcher—a vampire warrior. I hunt and kill Rogues. Hell, since I started dating her, I have brought her nothing but trouble."

When reading a series, do you find yourself wondering about characters whose stories you've read in previous stories? Or, do you feel their story is over and done with...time to move on? Do you think their appearance takes away from the main characters or adds to the story, bringing it more depth?

It's almost here!

No, I don't mean Christmas...although that is exciting. I'm talking about the fourth novel of my paranormal romance series - The Watchers. Midnight Savior is releasing through Samhain Publishing on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Be sure to stop by the Samhain Cafe Tuesday to chat with all the other authors with stories releasing that day. Excerpts and contests...you can't go wrong with that.

Midnight Savior - The Watchers, Book Four

The clock is ticking…

The phrase “home sweet home” means nothing to Marie DeVeux. Her parents never understood her ongoing relationship with her dead grandmother. Plus, she’s plagued with dreams of a man being tortured. Dreams so real, the burden strips away every vestige of normal life. At rock bottom, she hears her grandmother’s voice telling her that the man exists, and she’s the only one who can save him.

Kern, a Watcher, should have been more careful when he wished for a little more excitement in his life. Kidnapping wouldn’t have been his choice. Torture, solitary confinement and starvation have left his soul consumed by a burning rage and inner demons that push him to lash out at the first face he’s seen in eight long months. Marie.

Is this woman his knight in shining armor, or just another experiment? Kern must sift through the chaos of his mind for the truth that lies hidden in his heart. And make a decision before time runs out—for them both.

Warning: Contains dead relatives who never leave, climactic lab scenes, and a mad scientist.

Haven't caught the Watcher train yet? Here's what reviewers had to say:

“I couldn’t stop reading and felt the characters’ emotions as surely as if they’d been my own.” – The Romance Studio

A ruthless drug runner who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, a Rogue killing vampire with a heart of stone, and a woman caught in the middle. One may take her heart, and the other, her life.

“There’s a lot going on in this novella length story that will keep your attention, so grab a snack and a soda then sit down and enjoy.” -- Literary Nymphs

His date kidnapped, vampire crack threatening to hit the streets, a psycho vamp planning to take over the city, thousands of humans and civilian vamps pack the waterfront for the fireworks festival, and someone is shipping in Rogues…Sometimes being a Watcher really sucks.

“Well written, not over the top, kept my interest with multiple plots for the characters, not just the rogues but also the man trying to trap Suma’s wolf.”
-- Paranormalromance.org

Hunting fanged creatures of the night while in her wolf form is the only life this Skinwalker has ever known, that is until a drool-worthy Native American male battles by her side. When his own fangs gleam in the night, showing his true nature, everything she thought she knew about vampires is turned upside down.

One life hangs on the thread of her imagination…

Legends, Book 2: Sequel to the award-winning Beaudry’s Ghost.

Troy Brannon is a ghost with no time for heaven. Thanks to his well-intentioned meddling, he’s got a missing soul on his hands. Fortunately he’s learned a skill no well-behaved spirit should have—the ability to zip through time and space.

A side trip to revive a drowning woman should’ve been simple. But the moment he locks lips with Carey Magennis, she generates an inner fire he’s never felt before, alive or dead—and his ability to time travel disappears.

When the rising tide closes over Carey’s head, it’s the end—but only of life as she knows it. She wakes up haunted by the idea she no longer fits in, and by the sexy, lion-hearted ghost of the man who saved her. No one wants to hear about the strange things that have been happening to her since her near-death experience, least of all her image-conscious fiancĂ©.

Troy realizes Carey accidentally stole his gift—and she has no idea the danger she’s in. Wherever her imagination takes her, she goes with it. Literally. Plus, that fiancĂ© of hers has an agenda that doesn’t include her survival.

Saving her will be as dangerous to his mission as she is to his heart.

This title contains some gratuitous bad language; the sex of your dreams with a professional bad-ass hero; bloody Civil War battles; astral joy rides; and a heroine who “gets it” in more ways than one!

The Watchers, Book 2

The countdown is on for Louisville, Kentucky’s fireworks show and the Watchers are in place. Rogue vampires, being the ultimate party crashers they are, are expected to join the revelry.

Rosa Bella, standing-room-only singer at the Black Panther Lounge, has her own chaos to manage. As a vampire who manages to blend in with society, she doesn’t need any more complications. But a gorgeous one has just turned her life upside down—Vane, a Watcher assigned to hunt down and eliminate Rogues prowling the downtown streets.

Vane, dubbed “Latin Lover” by his fellow Watchers, fills his nights with his favorite letter of the alphabet, “F”—females and food. But nothing fills his empty heart like Rosa’s soft, sexy body. Still, a Watcher’s life has no room for attachments, even one who can defend herself with a pair of red stilettos.

Then two unexpected players join the game, and Rosa is thrust into the middle as the prize. They never expected their relationship to be a bed of roses, but as the festival-ending horse race looms, the only way to survive to the finish line is to face the dangers—together.

Midnight Rose Print Copy Coming Soon

It’s my turn to blog today. I apologize to all the readers and the other blogging authors that I missed several of my last turns. It was probably my subconscious knowing I didn’t know what to talk about, LOL.

But, this time I do have something to talk about. The print version of one of my books is coming out October 1st. It's Midnight Rose, the second novel in The Watchers series.

Rosa Bella is a singer in an upscale nightclub. She’s used to fans admiring her talent, though one fan pushes his admiration too far. He has plans for her, ones that will change her life forever. Rosa has eyes for one man—Vane—but he has fans of his own. The Watcher, known as the Latin Lover, has women falling at his feet.

When Rosa’s psycho vamp admirer takes what he believes is his, Rosa wonders if her knight in shining armor will find her in time, that is if he searches for her at all.

Catch all the action in Midnight Rose – The Watchers, Book Two. Currently available in ebook download at http://www.mybookstoreandmore/. The first three of the series are also available.

The Watchers Series by D. McEntire

When the sun sets on downtown Louisville, Kentucky, the Watchers take over, patrolling the streets on the hunt for Rogues. Four Watchers operate the Cell. One will be lost, but another gained.

Midnight Reborn - The Watchers, Book One
Robyn lay still, as if she were asleep, one arm pillowing her head on the mattress and her hand close to her head, concealing the knife she had sneaked from the kitchen yesterday evening after cleaning up the dinner dishes.
The smell of whiskey was strong coming off his hot breath as he knelt beside her. Robyn fought down the panic rising in her chest. Her throat threatened to close and she wanted to scream, but she kept her control and lay as still as possible.
She waited and watched through partly closed lids until his face was close to hers. At that moment, Robyn swung her arm up and plunged the knife into the side of Jake's throat. Then she brought her foot to his chest and kicked as hard as she could, sending him backwards into the cement wall with a hard thud.
Breathing heavily with the adrenaline rush at what she had done, Robyn scuttled backwards off the thin mattress and towards the door, then stopped. When she peered hard into the darkness shrouding the body that slumped in the corner, she realized that the man wasn't Jake, but one of his men.

Midnight Rose - The Watchers, Book Two
Rosa couldn't take her gaze off Vane as he walked around the front of the car. The way he moved—slow and graceful with biceps, pecs and every other muscle she didn't know the name of bunching and moving underneath his silk shirt—was like watching the flow of water.
While she was wondering about the play of his muscles of his lower half, the driver's side door opened. Rosa could feel the heat on her face and knew her cheeks were reddening, but before she could remove the evidence of where her thoughts had traveled, Vane slid behind the steering wheel and gave her a saucy wink as he started the engine.
Busted.

Midnight Revelations - The Watchers, Book Three
After washing the dishes, Suma returned to his side and let her gaze take in every inch of him. His skin was smooth and tanned like her own. Long, silky black hair spread out around his shoulders. Thin fingers jutted out from large, strong hands.
A raised vein ran down one muscular arm to his hand, a display of strength and power, which made her breath quicken. She found herself wanting to run her fingers along the line to feel the pulse of his blood under her fingertips. Suma almost did, but snatched her hand back quickly.
Looking up, she saw Rayne watching her from under lowered lashes. She had thought he was deep in sleep. The coffee shop scene came to mind and her face heated with embarrassment. Once again, she had been caught ogling this man.
"Like what you see?"
His voice was velvet and a slight smile played at his lips.
Midnight Revelations received 4 nymphs from Literary Nymphs Reviews.

Life in the Fast Lane

I am going to rant this lovely Friday, so please forgive me, though many of you will probably agree with me on this.

Driving 101. Left is for the fast line. Right is for the slower traffic. Now, repeat after me“ Left. Fast. Right. Slow.” Again, “Left. Fast. Right. Slow.” It seems some people never got that message.

When you are on a road with two lanes or more going in the same direction, and you find someone behind you that wishes to drive faster than you are going, be courteous and get over into the right lane, especially when you notice a line of cars behind you.

Every day there is someone not even reaching the speed limit on the highway or even state roads and yes, they are hogging up the left lane. It just boils my blood to be behind a line of cars on the highway…in the fast lane…going 50mph.

Are people really that clueless or are they just being jerks?

There is also the subject of those who like to ride the bumper of the car in front of them. What happened to 1 ½ car lengths between you and the car in front of you? Guess some people never learned that, either, thus the reason for so many wrecks. But, that is a topic for another day.

I would love to hear your opinion.

The Watchers (paranormal romance)

No one can say when the first vampire walked the earth. No one knows where he came from. He was known by many names, and although myths about his abilities differed, there was one common theme─death. Brutal killings and blood-drained bodies settled fear and anger in the hearts of humans.

Those who grew tired of hiding within the shadows and being hunted stepped forward, wanting a better way of life. They learned to leash their lust for blood by obtaining their sustenance of life from animal meat and not from humans.

It was this new civilization of vampires, those who realized their only means of survival was to blend in among the humans, who set the standard for the future of their race. But, even as this new society grew, so did the number of rogue vampires.

Dr. Stephanus Olivia traveled the world seeking strong, honorable warriors to fight for the continued survival of their race by removing those who threaten to reveal their secret and destroy how far they have come.

Thus it began. The society of Watchers was created with Cells of warriors all over the world, upholding their vow to protect the innocent and eliminate Rogues.

Dr. Stephanus Olivia created the Watchers to help balance the scales of good and evil. Cells of Watchers, vampire warriors, were established all over the world to protect humans and civilian vampires from Rogues─merciless killers with an unending quest of sating their desire for the thrill of a kill, and the blood of their victim.
Downtown Louisville, Kentucky is home to one of those Cells. When the sun goes down, four Watchers guard the city, upholding their vow to protect the innocent with their lives. The job is rough, requiring focus and training, not to mention the drive to eliminate rogue vampires in order to keep their race under the radar.

The first book of the series, Midnight Reborn, sets the stage for the city, the downtown Louisville Cell and the day-to-day, or rather night-to-night, life of a Watcher.

Trigg hunts alone, just how he likes it, and he’s never been one to follow the rules, which usually lands him in hot water with his CO. The others believe him to have a heart of stone and give him space…a lot of space.

Follow Trigg through his coming to terms with who he is, what his head tells him about his life as a Watcher, and what his heart wants after Robyn Andrew steps off a bus and onto the city’s streets.

In the second book of the series, Midnight Rose, Vane is faced with the reality that trying to fill the hole in his life with women and spending all his free time out on the town has gotten him nowhere, but alone.

That is until he meets Rosa Bella.

Happy reading...and don't talk to strangers!

09 January 2009

Looking forward to a new year.

Welcome to 2009 everyone, and I hope it’s a good one for reading and writing. Personally, I have two additional Watcher books coming out this year as well as the print version of book one, Midnight Reborn, releasing March 31, 2009. I am anxiously waiting to have my first ever book signing.

Another event I am anxiously awaiting is the Lori Foster’s event the first weekend of June in Ohio. I attended last year for the first time and knew I’d make a point to be back the next year. So, if you can, catch me there, as well more romance authors than you can shake a stick at!

Last year was a very exciting time for me, stepping into the shoes of being a published author and experiencing the joy of having my first ever book release. I was blessed to end 2008 with another release. Midnight Rose, the second book of The Watchers series was released through Samhain Publishing on December 23, 2008.

Another first for me was creating a book trailer for Midnight Rose. I’ll admit it was okay at first, but after spending more time working on it, I believe it is now much better. Check out the links below to see the trailers for both books.

Keep your eyes forward as we enter another year and I hope yours is filled with happy memories to take with you into 2010.

Just a little introduction of The Watchers series before I end this blog.

Robyn Andrews escapes a horrific situation in Texas which claimed the life of her mother. After four years of hell, she sees her opportunity to escape, and she does so by catching the last bus out of Dallas. It’s destination─Louisville, Kentucky.

A chance meeting and a returned act of charity brings the two together and sparks fly when the world of a vampire warrior and a human female collide, then it’s a fight for Robyn’s life and Trigg’s heart.

Midnight Rose steps in where Trigg and Robyn’s story leaves off. Vane is another Watcher of the downtown Cell. Dubbed the Latin Lover by his fellow Watchers, he was known to frequent the hot spots to scratch his two main itches─females and food.

Rosa Bella, a beautiful vampire singer at the Black Panther Lounge, is thrust into the world of the Watchers when her best friend was shot and hanging on to her mortality by a prayer. Once her eyes met Vane’s and, if only for few moments, his strong arms became her rock, her boring, ever predictable life was turned upside down.

Just as Vane begins to realize how he had been trying to get by all these years and the hole he had been trying to fill, more problems erupt in the city than the planned surge of Rogues on the streets during the upcoming Derby festivities.

Rosa’s abduction by a psycho vampire and crazed fan, and the threat of a vampire drug hitting the streets before they can discover the manufacturing site, puts both of their lives in a whirlwind which could bring them together, or drive them apart.

Be sure to catch both of these paranormal romance novels and stay tuned, as they say, to book three, Midnight Revelations, where we find out what happens when Rayne is called to investigate a Rogue killing wolf sighted at the Charlestown State Park. Then, it's on to book four, Midnight Savior. After the conclusion of the city's annual fireworks festival to kick off the Derby festivities, one Watcher, Kern, is MIA. With no sign of him for months, the Watchers fear the worse.

Midnight Rose is released today!!

Midnight Rose - the second installment of the Watchers series is released today from Samhain Publishing. This is Vane and Rosa's story.

With the fireworks festival to kick off the Kentucky Derby in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, mere days away and the expectation of an onslaught of rogue vampires attempting to crash the party, the Watchers have their hands full. As if Vane didn't have enough on his plate, Evan, a psychotic vampire has plans for Rosa. A second player joins the game with eyes on Rosa as a prize - a drug running Rogue with plans to release a vampire drug which could have dire consequences if it hits the streets. A blanket of roses isn't all that's at stake with this race to to see who will win and who will fall short of the finish line.

Excerpt:

After finishing their coffee and dessert, Vane decided to take Rosa for a short walk by the river. They had talked for hours, enjoying each other’s company. He had never spent so much time talking to a woman and found it very pleasant, realizing the act had been something he had missed out on all this time. Whenever he was with a woman, their mouths were too busy doing other things to do much talking.

They walked along the River Walk, watching the flowing dark water of the Ohio River with the image of the bright yellow moon reflecting off the small ripples. Vane wanted to pull Rosa into his arms and kiss her, but he didn’t want to move too fast. She was obviously enjoying their date as much as he was, and he didn’t want to do anything to ruin it.

After a while, they turned and headed to where Vane’s Mercedes was parked, holding hands like a couple of high schoolers. A dark alley loomed ahead, and the closer they got, the more unease he felt. Suddenly, Vane knew why.

“Rosa, I want you to go to the car. Now. Here are my keys, and don’t look back.”

Vane could see he was scaring her, but he had to get her out of here. He didn’t want Rosa to be caught in the middle of what was about to go down.

“Why? Tell me what’s wrong.”

Before he could answer and make her understand she needed to get the hell out of there, a man swaggered out of the dark shadows of the alley.

“Well, if it isn’t a Watcher.”

The Rogue emerged from the shadows showing his bloodstained fangs with a menacing sneer. He looked at Vane, then turned to Rosa. The thought of the filthy vampire setting his gaze upon Rosa, his Rosa, made Vane’s blood boil.

Vane saw a second Rogue cross the street and saunter behind Rosa. It wasn’t a surprise they would plan to use her to keep him off-balance.

Two more Rogues stepped out of the alley, each carrying knives, something the Watchers had noticed they started showing up with. Rogues were acquiring weapons from somewhere, and the consensus among the Watchers was it was from someone, but there was no idea as to who that was.

Vane’s mind reeled. This wasn’t going to be an easy fight, and his concern for Rosa intensified. He berated himself for putting her in danger. How stupid to believe because he was a Watcher they would be safe strolling around downtown alone at dark. He had let his guard down, and Rosa might pay the price for it.

Country Music - D. McEntire's Muse

Many times I have been asked: “What gets you in the mood to write?”

My answer: Country Music

When I listen to a country song, I picture a handsome man with tight, faded jeans, work boots and that good ol’ cowboy hat. He removes his shirt to reveal tanned flesh from days spent working in the sun, and sculpted muscles from lifting bales of hay. *sigh*

But, there’s more to it than a cowboy’s looks. I mean, who doesn’t want a man who will take you pickin’ wildflowers, then check you for ticks. He’ll always think of you. Even when he’s picking up fast food, he’ll ask if you want fries with that. And, if he misses your call, he’ll be quick to give you a holler back.

When the sun goes down after a long day on the farm, he’ll take you out for a night on the town, or get good directions to the red neck yacht club. But, where ever he takes you, he’ll make sure every mile is a memory.

When you’re gone, he’ll make sure every light on the house is on for your return home.

Caring and sensitive are good qualities, but a cowboy can get a little naughty, especially when he asks “Who’s your daddy?” and wants to show you a good time.

It’s okay if he tells himself she thinks my tractor’s sexy every time he climbs aboard his international harvester. The most important thing of all is he knows size matters.

So, when you find this cowboy, that sexy, sultry man of whom dreams are made of, don’t blink, or you’re gonna miss this. After all…love is a beautiful thing.

Wait a minute…what was I thinking?

I don’t want you paranormal fans to be left out. That handsome cowboy can be one of the “fang” persuasion. He may not work the ranch and his bronzed body may not come from hours in the sun but from his complex DNA and chemical makeup rushing through his veins, he’ll have no problem demonstrating I’m still a guy and show you how forever feels.

Cowboys, paranormal hunks, lords of the past or military bad boys….

Whatever the man of your dreams may be, my wish is you’ll find love in the first degree and it feels so right.

So…I’ve got to ask….What do you think about that?

Turn the page and enter a world where vampires walk among us though we, humans, are none the wiser. They have worked alongside humans for decades, adding their skills and compassion to the community. But, there are those among them who refuse to blend, refuse to follow the rules of society. They are rogue vampires―merciless killers of both humans and their own kind.

The Universe has a way of counterbalancing. Where there's a Ying, there's a Yang. Where there's Evil, there's Good, and where there are Rogues, there are Watchers─vampire warriors who hunt them.

Your journey into The Watchers Series begins in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Trigg is one Watcher among four in the Louisville Cell. He has two drives that keep him going each night. The first is to do his job as a Watcher. The second is to be left the hell alone.

Trigg's first drive isn't a problem, as he has been a Watcher for over fifty years. The second becomes more of a struggle when Robyn Andrews steps off a bus from Texas and onto city’s streets in the pouring rain.

It only took one look at the petite form huddled in the rain, counting a small stack of bills, to put a crack in his amour and chip away at his self-imposed solitude.

An act of kindness, which Trigg blames on a moment of temporary insanity, is repaid when Robyn jumps into a battle between himself and three Rogues without knowing she was not facing normal men. Her injuries force him to take her home...and into his heart, both of which he may never be able to undo.

Robyn came to Louisville to escape a deadly past. Can Trigg overcome his doubts of a relationship between a vampire and a human before her past catches up with her, or will he rebuild the crumbling wall around him and walk away?

The answers are in Midnight Reborn - The Watchers, Book One

EXCERPT

Just as he arrived at Fourth Street, the block where the restaurant was located, a small figure amidst the crowd caught his eye. A waif of a girl was standing in the pouring rain while huddled over a small stack of bills, counting the cash. Suddenly, her shoulders slumped and she hesitated a few moments before shoving them into her back pocket.

With a slight shrug of her shoulders, she pulled the collar of her jacket closer to her neck and proceeded down the street, heading in his direction.

Trigg didn’t know why she had caught his attention. He had walked the streets of this city and cities like it night after night for what seemed like an eternity, hunting rogue vampires in an effort to protect humans and fellow, more civilized, vampires. Not once in all this time had he paid much attention to those around him, those he swore to protect. His focus was always on seeking out and eliminating Rogues.

Only a short while ago he had passed throngs of people on his walk to Fourth Street, but had paid them no mind. It wasn’t as if he had a particular dislike for humans, or others of his kind for that matter, he just didn’t want to deal with them. He wanted to do his job and be left alone.

What in the devil made him notice her? Unmistakably, he had felt something as he watched her, as if her sadness and despair, so evident in the way she carried herself, washed over him. Trigg scowled at himself for even thinking such a thing. He was just tired and needed to eat and get back to the Cell.

Turning away from the girl as she continued to make her way in his direction, he rounded the corner and walked to the door of the restaurant.
